ON PROJECTS # 28
Ultimately, it is these uncultivated, abandoned fields –
areas that surround the city and are apparently
deprived from any precise function – which give us hope. They are residual
zones of uncertainty, questioning by their very existence fundamental facts
such as where the city “begins,” and where it, “ends.” They embody a particular
form of urban charm, one which has been appreciated for its ambiguous and
unique qualities by a range of writers, poets, and of course architects. For,
it is these very voids which are the property of the future city, proving
without a doubt that something new will be achieved because their very solid
incompleteness implies a promise.
